Buying guide · 2005 to 2011 · Updated Oct 1, 2026

The 612 Scaglietti is a four-seat Ferrari V12 coupe whose big bills are the F1 gearbox, the instrument panel and the cam belt, so history matters more than mileage.

## The 612 Scaglietti as a used buy

The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is a front-engined V12 coupe that seats four, and the version you choose matters as much as the car's condition. Around 3,025 cars were built between 2004 and 2011, replacing the 456M. It was unveiled at Detroit in January 2004. The 5,748 cc V12 makes 533 hp, and [Car Collector International](https://www.carcollectorinternational.com/research/buyers-guides/ferrari/612) and [Targa](https://www.usetarga.app/models/380) both note it is shared with the 575 Superamerica.

It suits someone who wants a real grand tourer with a back seat. Top speed is 199 mph, 0-60 takes around 4 seconds, and the aluminium spaceframe was developed with Alcoa. [Forza Magazine](https://www.forza-mag.com/issues/231/articles/best-buy) rates it fast, comfortable, reliable and versatile, and our [Ferrari price guide](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/prices/ferrari) covers what the badge costs.

Three things to settle before you view: whether it is manual or F1A, whether the cam belt has been done, and whether the instrument panel still works. Our [used 612 Scaglietti listings](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/used/ferrari/612-scaglietti) show what is on the market now, and the [F430 guide](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/guides/ferrari/f430) and [360 guide](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/guides/ferrari/360) cover the V8 alternatives.

## 612 Scaglietti years and versions

Only one body style exists, a four-seat coupe, and the choice is between two gearboxes. Most cars have the Graziano-built 6-speed F1A automated manual. A conventional 6-speed manual was also offered, and just 199 were built, 60 of them for the US. It was the last V12 2+2 Ferrari with a manual; the FF that followed was automatic only. Forza says the manual commands a premium of up to $50,000, while the [Ferrari Owners Club](https://www.ferrariownersclub.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/c72c1477-534a-4c58-8fd8-98a46c329463.pdf) puts it at about £15,000.

A revised car arrived in March 2008, often called One-to-One (OTO) after Ferrari's personalisation programme. It brought an electrochromic glass roof, standard carbon-ceramic brakes, a faster-shifting F1 gearbox, a manettino on the steering wheel and better infotainment. Early F1 cars are the ones that fall inside the 2008 clutch-sensor recall, which covers 2005 to 2007 cars, so the later gearbox is a point in favor of an OTO car.

HGT-S and HGT-C handling packs were announced for 2006. HGT-S adds sport suspension, quicker shifts, 19-inch modular wheels and sport exhaust; HGT-C adds carbon-ceramic brakes. Forza says the packs are fairly common and add nothing to a car's value. Car Collector International says collector interest centers on the manual, documented OTO cars from 2008 to 2011, the Sessanta and HGT-optioned cars. The Sessanta was a 60-car edition from 2007, F1A only, with two-tone paint and a three-position electrochromic roof.

For a driver, the manual or a documented 2008-on F1 car is the target. Our [612 market page](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/ferrari-612-scaglietti) lists every car for sale, and the [price guide](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/prices/ferrari/612-scaglietti) shows how the manual's premium plays out. ## Common 612 Scaglietti problems

The engine draws praise, and the trouble sits in the gearbox, electrics and trim.

### F1A gearbox glitches

The F1A can misbehave in ways that need a reset of the clutch position sensors or a software update. Actuators can also play up, and the Ferrari Owners Club says a dealer charges around £7000 to fix them.

### Instrument panel failure

The panel can fail through its power supply, backlighting supply or motherboard, and Forza describes it as the most common issue. Test every gauge and the backlighting on the day you view.

### Electrochromic roof

The glass roof on later cars can fail. The Ferrari Owners Club quotes about £30,000 for a replacement roof, so operate it and check its tint changes.

### Sticky switchgear

The coating on the plastic switchgear can turn sticky and rub off, especially on cars that have been stored unused. Press every switch and look at the wear on the buttons.

### Shrinking dash leather

Leave a 612 in the sun and the dashboard leather can shrink. Look along the top of the dash for pulled stitching or gaps.

### Early manifold gaskets

The Ferrari Owners Club says some early cars had substandard inlet manifold gaskets, which should have been replaced by now. Ask whether the work was done.

### Headlight condensation and wheels

Some owners report condensation in the headlights of cars kept outside. The low-profile tires also leave the wheels exposed to pothole damage, so inspect each rim.

## What to check on a used 612 Scaglietti

Paperwork and a specialist's eye matter more here than on most cars.

- Ask for a complete service record showing work by Ferrari dealers or well-regarded specialists.
- Book a pre-purchase inspection with a shop that knows the 612.
- Check when the rubber cam belt was last changed, and assume a car with no paperwork for the belt is due for it.
- Confirm that both NHTSA recalls were completed and that the F1 gearbox carries the latest software.
- Drive an F1A car and note any hesitant or jerky shifts that suggest a clutch sensor reset or software update is due.
- Run every instrument panel gauge and the backlighting, and watch for flicker or blank sections.
- Operate the electrochromic roof through its full range on cars that have one.
- Press every switch and feel for stickiness or worn coating.
- Run your eye along the panel gaps and paint, since uneven gaps or flaws suggest accident repair, and look for corrosion.
- Inspect the dashboard top for shrunken leather, and the headlights for condensation.

## 612 Scaglietti running costs

Forza puts an annual fluids and inspection service at around $1,000. The cam belt should come off every five years, though Forza notes many dealers recommend four, and a major service with the belt change is roughly $5,000. [Autocar](https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/ferrari/612-scaglietti-2004-2011/reliability) quotes around £4000 for the belt service in the UK.

Forza lists a clutch replacement at around $8,000, a full set of carbon-ceramic pads and rotors at roughly $25,000, and tires about every 10,000 miles. A new instrument panel costs $7,000 to $8,000 by Forza's figures (£6500 to £7500 from Autocar), while one shop rebuilds the original for $1,000 to $1,500. Recovering the dash leather runs $4,000 to $5,000.

## 612 Scaglietti recalls and complaints

NHTSA lists two recall campaigns for the 2005 to 2011 612 Scaglietti. The 2008 campaign covers 366 cars from 2005 to 2007 with F1 transmissions, where a nonconforming clutch sensor could malfunction because of heat. The 2022 campaign, which covers 2005 to 2011 cars among many other Ferrari models, concerns the hydraulic service brakes.

Owners have filed no complaints with NHTSA for these years. Check any car's VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup before you buy, since a campaign for a model year does not mean every car was affected.

## NHTSA recalls for the 612 Scaglietti

Every recall campaign the carmaker filed with NHTSA for the 2005 to 2011 model years, newest first, as of Oct 31, 2026. Not every car of a listed year was affected: check a car's VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

| Campaign | Reported | Model years | Component | What can happen |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 22V536000 | Jul 26, 2022 | 2005 to 2011 | Service brakes, hydraulic | A loss of brake function can increase the risk of a crash. |
| 08V214000 | May 12, 2008 | 2005 to 2007 | Power train | THIS CLUTCH SENSOR MALFUNCTION MAY RENDER THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE AND, POSSIBLY, RESULTING IN A CRASH. |

## Our verdict

Find a documented 2008-on F1 car, or a manual if you want the rarest 612 and can pay its premium. Skip any car with no belt record, a flickering instrument panel or an unproven roof. The engine is described by the Ferrari Owners Club as rock solid if regularly maintained, so spend your money on the history.

Insist on a pre-purchase inspection, evidence of both recalls and current gearbox software. Budget for the panel, clutch and belt, because the 612's bills come from those parts and not from the V12.

## 612 Scaglietti: common questions

### What is the best 612 Scaglietti to buy?

A documented 2008-on car with the faster F1 gearbox is the one to look for, or a manual if you want the rarest version. Only 199 manuals were built. Collector interest also centers on OTO cars and the Sessanta.

### What goes wrong with the 612 Scaglietti?

The main problems are F1A gearbox glitches, instrument panel failure and electrochromic roof faults. Sticky switchgear, shrinking dash leather and headlight condensation also turn up. Early cars may have had poor inlet manifold gaskets.

### Is the 612 Scaglietti reliable?

Mostly, with caveats. The engine is described as rock solid when regularly maintained, but the F1 gearbox, instrument panel and roof can be costly. A full service history and a specialist inspection are the safeguard.

### How much does it cost to run a 612 Scaglietti?

Forza puts an annual service at around $1,000, and a major service with cam belt at roughly $5,000. A clutch costs around $8,000 and carbon-ceramic brakes about $25,000. Tires are needed roughly every 10,000 miles.

### How much is a used 612 Scaglietti?

Asking prices for the 9 cars we track for sale right now run from $83,000 to $190,399, with a median of $134,900. Model year, version, mileage and history move the price most; the prices by model year and fair values on this page show where a car should sit.

### Has the 612 Scaglietti been recalled?

NHTSA lists 2 recall campaigns filed for the 2005 to 2011 model years as of Oct 31, 2026, the latest for service brakes, hydraulic. Not every car was affected, so check the VIN of any car you're considering at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
