Buying guide · 2015 to 2024 · Updated Oct 1, 2026

The Huracan's V10 has a good reputation, but the dual-clutch gearbox, coolant lines and mileage history decide whether a used one is a good buy or an expensive one.

## The Huracan as a used buy

The Lamborghini Huracan is a car to buy on its gearbox and service history. The 5.2-liter V10 gets good reports, but the seven-speed dual-clutch is where a careless owner's habits show up as a bill. It replaced the Gallardo, and [exoticcarhacks.com](https://www.exoticcarhacks.com/buyers-guides/lamborghini-huracan-buyers-guide/) notes the V10 and dual-clutch pairing. Audi built part of the car at Neckarsulm, and Lamborghini finished it at Sant'Agata Bolognese.

This guide covers 2015 to 2024. No US-market Huracan had a manual gearbox, so every car you find has the dual-clutch, and the question is how it was treated.

Specialists call the V10 tough and rate the car's reliability reputation as strong for a supercar. They also warn about mileage that has been quietly trimmed, and about adverts that list wraps, wheels and exhausts as factory fitments. You can browse [used Huracans for sale](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/used/lamborghini/huracan) to see how varied the spec is.

## Huracan years and versions

The LP 610-4 launched in 2015 with 610 hp and all-wheel drive, and the Spyder followed in 2016. A rear-drive LP 580-2 with cylinder deactivation, 580 hp and coupe and spyder bodies sat below it, according to [Oracle Finance](https://www.oraclefinance.co.uk/lamborghini-buying-guide/). [Performance Car Intelligence](https://www.performancecarintelligence.com/guides/lamborghini-huracan-buying-guide) advises finding cars with the optional magneto-rheological suspension and sports exhaust, because early cars without them can feel comparatively inert. Our [LP 610-4 Coupe page](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/lamborghini-huracan-lp-610-4-coupe) lists the early cars.

The Performante LP 640-4 arrived in 2018 with active aero, upgraded suspension, bigger brakes, forged carbon parts and a V10 making 631 hp. [CarsCounsel](https://carscounsel.com/lamborghini-huracan-best-worst-years/) names the 2018 Performante Coupe the best enthusiast choice. See the [Performante listings](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/lamborghini-huracan-performante).

The Evo is the mid-life update, with the Performante's engine and engineering plus rear-wheel steering, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, new bumpers, wheels and LED lighting. Sources date it to 2019 or 2020, so check the build year rather than trusting the name. CarsCounsel calls 2020 to 2022 the best years, and picks the 2021 Evo AWD as the best of the lot. [PistonHeads](https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-buying-guides/lamborghini-huracan-evo--ph-used-buying-guide/48211) lists the Evo RWD at 610 hp, 3.3 seconds to 62 mph and 202 mph, and says Evo Spyders run about 100 kg heavier than coupes. Our [Evo page](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/lamborghini-huracan-evo) shows what is for sale.

The STO is a road-legal car based on the GT3 racer, with 75% carbon bodywork, a fixed rear wing and a clamshell front that removes storage space. The Tecnica uses the STO's engine, sits between the Evo RWD and the STO, and is easier to live with than the STO. Browse the [Tecnica](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/lamborghini-huracan-tecnica) and [STO](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/lamborghini-huracan-sto) pages. The Sterrato, a raised off-road version, was limited to 1,499 cars.

## Common Huracan problems

These are the faults the sources we read point to.

### Dual-clutch wear

The gearbox dislikes abuse, and frequent launch control use speeds up clutch wear. [Carlyle](https://carlyle.vin/maintenance/lamborghini/huracan) rates clutch pack wear as high severity at 40,000 to 80,000 miles, costing $6,000 to $10,000.

### Low transmission fluid

A factory recall covered insufficient transmission fluid, which NHTSA says can cause clutch slippage and a leak. Confirm the work was done on any 2020 to 2022 Evo or 2022 STO.

### Coolant line failure

Crimped OEM aluminum coolant lines are a known weak point between 30,000 and 70,000 miles, according to Carlyle, which puts the repair at $2,000 to $5,000.

### Fuel tank flange

Early 2015 and 2016 cars were covered by a recall for the fuel tank flange. Cracking there can cause a fuel smell or a leak.

### Active aero flaps

On the Performante and STO, the flaps can stick with debris. That triggers warning lights and needs recalibration at a dealer.

### Nose-lift system

The front lift actuator or pump can fail. Carlyle quotes $800 to $2,500 to fix it.

## What to check on a used Huracan

Spend your effort on the gearbox, the paperwork and the car's past.

- Check first-to-second shifts moving off, because hesitation or harshness at low speed is a serious sign.
- Ask for a full service record from a Lamborghini center or specialist, and look for service done by time as well as mileage.
- Book an inspection at a main dealer, since Huracans carry miles well and can be sold with trimmed mileage.
- Run the VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup and ask for proof that any open campaigns were completed.
- Inspect carbon-ceramic rotors closely for damage and look under the car for signs of track use.
- Ask whether the transmission fluid recall was performed on any 2020 to 2022 Evo or 2022 STO.
- Look at the coolant lines for leaks or residue, and ask whether they have been replaced.
- Watch the warning lights on a Performante or STO while the aero flaps cycle.
- Check each option against the original build sheet, because wraps, exhausts, wheels and software are often advertised as factory.
- Ask how often the car was launched, as the owner's habits show in clutch wear.

## Huracan running costs

Carlyle puts the 30,000 mile or 60 month service at $3,500 to $6,000, including spark plugs and dual-clutch fluid.

Wear items add up. Carlyle lists steel brake pads and rotors at $2,000 to $4,000, and carbon-ceramic sets from $15,000. Performance tires last 5,000 to 12,000 miles and cost $3,000 to $5,000 a set. Add the clutch, coolant line and nose-lift figures above, and keep a reserve.

## Huracan recalls and complaints

NHTSA lists 7 recall campaigns across 2015 to 2024. The most serious is the 2020 to 2022 Evo and 2022 STO campaign for too little transmission oil, which can cause clutch slippage and a leak. Others cover a misinstalled front frame bracket on certain 2024 Evo Spyders, a driver door handle that may not open the door from outside on 2022 Evo and STO cars, and a rearview camera that may not display below 41°F on 2018 to 2021 cars.

The remaining campaigns concern headlight adjustment and high beams. A campaign for one model year does not mean every car of that year was affected, so check each car's VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup. Owners have filed 2 complaints with NHTSA, one reporting a fire.

## NHTSA recalls for the Huracan

Every recall campaign the carmaker filed with NHTSA for the 2015 to 2024 model years, newest first, as of Oct 31, 2026. Not every car of a listed year was affected: check a car's VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

| Campaign | Reported | Model years | Component | What can happen |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 24V701000 | Sep 19, 2024 | 2024 | Structure | In the event of a crash, an incorrectly installed frame bracket may not provide adequate protection to an unbelted passenger, increasing the risk of injury. |
| 24V219000 | Mar 21, 2024 | 2024 | Exterior lighting | High beam headlights that do not activate as intended can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. |
| 23V826000 | Dec 7, 2023 | 2015 to 2024 | Electrical system | Incorrectly adjusted headlights can reduce the visibility of oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. |
| 22V422000 | Jun 15, 2022 | 2022 | Structure | A person may become trapped which, in the event of an emergency, may increase their risk of injury. |
| 22V220000 | Apr 6, 2022 | 2020 to 2022 | Power train | Clutch slippage can cause a loss of drive power and increase the risk of a crash. A transmission oil leak in the presence of hot exhaust components can increase the risk of fire. |
| 22V081000 | Feb 16, 2022 | 2015 to 2020 | Exterior lighting | Improperly adjusted headlights can reduce visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. |
| 21V466000 | Jun 23, 2021 | 2018 to 2021 | Back over prevention | A rearview camera that does not display an image reduces the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash. |

## Owner complaints to NHTSA about the Huracan

Owners filed 2 complaints with NHTSA for the 2015 to 2024 model years (1 fire reported). A complaint is an owner's report, not a confirmed defect. A complaint can name more than one component.

| Component | Complaints |
| --- | --- |
| Electrical system | 1 |
| Unknown or other | 1 |
| Vehicle speed control | 1 |

## Our verdict

Buy a 2020 to 2022 Evo, with CarsCounsel's pick being the 2021 AWD, or a 2018 Performante Coupe, which CarsCounsel names the best enthusiast choice. Choose a car with the magneto-rheological suspension and sports exhaust. If you want something rarer, the STO is the last track-focused Huracan, and the Tecnica is the easier one to live with. If you are weighing rivals, see [Audi R8 vs Lamborghini Huracan](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/compare/audi-r8-vs-lamborghini-huracan).

Skip cars without full specialist service history and anything with a hesitant first-to-second shift. Insist on a main dealer inspection and a clean recall record before you pay.

## Huracan: common questions

### What is the best Huracan to buy?

The 2020 to 2022 Evo is the best choice according to CarsCounsel, and it singles out the 2021 Evo AWD as the best of them. The 2018 Performante Coupe is its pick for enthusiasts. Look for cars with the magneto-rheological suspension and sports exhaust.

### What goes wrong with the Huracan?

The main problems are dual-clutch wear, coolant line failures and, on some cars, a fuel tank flange or low transmission fluid recall. Carlyle puts clutch pack wear at $6,000 to $10,000 and coolant lines at $2,000 to $5,000. Performante and STO aero flaps can also stick and need recalibration.

### Is the Huracan reliable?

Mostly yes, for a supercar. Specialists describe the V10 as tough and the reliability reputation as strong for a supercar. The gearbox is the weak area if it has been abused, so check service history and shift quality.

### How much does it cost to run a Huracan?
