The Cybertruck has had 11 recall campaigns on 2024 models, so a used one is a matter of checking trim, drivetrain and recall paperwork before anything else.

## The Cybertruck as a used buy

The Cybertruck reached its first customers in late 2023, and the panels are unpainted stainless steel. Nothing mechanical connects the steering wheel to the rack, because the steering works entirely electronically. The auxiliary electrical system uses 48 volts instead of the usual 12.

It suits a buyer who is comfortable relying on Tesla's own service network, since [Squeezed](https://squeezed.app/cars/tesla/cybertruck/2024) says nearly all the parts and repair know-how lives there. That outlet also says insurance is expensive and body repair is specialized and slow.

Before you shop, expect to spend your time on trim fit, recall completion and drivetrain history. Our [used Cybertruck listings](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/used/tesla/cybertruck) show what is for sale now, and the [Tesla price guide](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/prices/tesla/cybertruck) covers the market.

## Cybertruck years and versions

Three trims exist. The tri-motor Cyberbeast and the dual-motor All-Wheel Drive arrived first, and a single-motor rear-drive Long Range followed in 2025. Early Foundation Series trucks carried extra equipment and a premium.

[Consumer Reports](https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/tesla/cybertruck/2024/road-test-report/) gives the Cyberbeast a claimed 2.6 second 0-to-60-mph time and a 301-mile range. The dual-motor truck makes 600 horsepower from a 123 kWh battery, with a manufacturer-estimated 325 miles of range and a claimed 11,000-pound towing capacity. Consumer Reports adds that the Cyberbeast is 1.5 seconds quicker to 60 mph, with a shorter range and a nicer interior.

Its verdict is that the standard AWD handles all needs for most buyers, and we agree: take the AWD unless the Cyberbeast's extra speed matters to you. Browse [every All-Wheel Drive for sale](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/tesla-cybertruck-all-wheel-drive) or [every Cyberbeast](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/tesla-cybertruck-cyberbeast). If you are weighing other Teslas, our [Model S guide](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/guides/tesla/model-s) is there too. A $16,000 Range Extender option lifted the estimated range to at least 445 miles (415 for the Cyberbeast), so check whether a truck has one.

Charging peaks at 250 kW, which Consumer Reports says is about nine miles of range per minute.

## Cybertruck versions for sale now

| Version | Model years | For sale | Median price |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/tesla-cybertruck-all-wheel-drive) | 2024 | 135 | $77,075 |
| [Cybertruck Cyberbeast](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cars/tesla-cybertruck-cyberbeast) | 2024-2026 | 59 | $90,199 |

## Common Cybertruck problems

Most of the trouble reported so far sits in trim, electrics and the drivetrain of early trucks.

### Detaching exterior trim

Recalls covered exterior trim that could detach through adhesive failure. [InsideEVs](https://insideevs.com/news/722534/tesla-cybertrucks-still-breaking-down/) reports rear panels beside the tonneau coming loose or falling off while driving after double-sided tape failed, and A-pillar front trim loosening and bending at highway speed on some vehicles.

### Accelerator pedal cover

A recall on early trucks dealt with a pedal cover that could come loose and jam the accelerator, as [BumperScan](https://bumperscan.com/tesla/cybertruck/2024) also records. Confirm the fix was done.

### Wiper motor failures

Wiper motor failures were a pain point on early trucks, and a recall covers the motor controller failing from excessive electrical current.

### Drive unit failures

InsideEVs says some trucks had drive unit or Power Conversion System failures at delivery or within the first miles. Early owners also reported half shaft grinding noises.

### Air suspension errors

Early owners reported air suspension errors that needed parts replaced. Test the system through its full height range.

### Coolant fill

Edmunds had a long-term test truck arrive with too little coolant. It went into limp mode with many errors, and no coolant error was shown.

### Panel fit and finish

Owners reported factory scratches and very poor panel gaps on early trucks. Surface contamination on the stainless can look like rust, but it is iron particles that clean off.

### Rearview camera delay

A recall covers a rearview camera image that may be delayed after shifting into reverse. NHTSA's record shows an over-the-air fix.

## What to check on a used Cybertruck

Spend your time on trim, recall status and the drivetrain.

- Confirm every recall was completed by VIN, and ask for the paperwork.
- Inspect panel edges and trim for lifting or signs of prior adhesive repair.
- Check the panels in good light for contamination and scratches before you decide anything is rust.
- Test the air suspension at all heights and watch for smooth movement and error messages.
- Open and close the powered frunk and the tonneau cover several times, and check the tailgate alignment.
- Listen for grinding from the half shafts on a drive, and watch for drive unit warnings.
- Check battery range against the original estimate and ask for the charging history.
- Test range against the load you intend to carry.
- Confirm FSD is actually enabled on the truck, as it may not transfer on a sale.
- Ask whether a Range Extender is fitted and check it works.

## Cybertruck running costs

Tesla's owner's manual recommends a brake fluid check every 4 years, HEPA filter replacement every 2 years (yearly in off-road driving) and tire rotation every 6,250 miles. In salted-road areas it wants brake calipers cleaned and lubricated every year or 12,500 miles.

Squeezed says tires are expensive and wear quickly because of the truck's weight. One high-mileage AWD truck covered by InsideEVs used 25,628 kWh over about 50,000 miles, costing $2,819 at home or $7,688 on Superchargers.

Budget for insurance and body repair too. Squeezed calls insurance expensive and says body repair is specialized and slow.

## Cybertruck recalls and complaints

NHTSA lists 11 recall campaigns on the 2024 model year. Several concern trim and mounting: the light bar delaminating and detaching, the trunk bed trim sail applique loosening, and 18-inch steel wheels whose brake rotor stud holes may crack. Others cover the accelerator pedal pad trapping the pedal, a drive inverter fault that may cause loss of drive power, and wiper motor controller failure. Some are fixed over the air. Check any truck's VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup, since a campaign does not mean every truck was affected.

Owners have filed 213 complaints with NHTSA, most about the electrical system (65), then structure (41). These are reports, not proven faults.

## NHTSA recalls for the Cybertruck

Every recall campaign the carmaker filed with NHTSA for the 2024 to 2027 model years, newest first, as of Oct 31, 2026. Not every car of a listed year was affected: check a car's VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

## Our verdict

Buy a dual-motor AWD, and choose the Cyberbeast only if the extra speed matters to you. Squeezed says these trucks lost value faster through 2025 than almost any recent vehicle, which favors the used buyer. See [every used Tesla for sale](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/used/tesla) and the [cheapest Cybertruck listings](https://www.luxurycardeals.com/cheapest/tesla/cybertruck) to compare.

Insist on proof that every recall was done, panels that sit true, and an air suspension that moves smoothly. One 50,000-mile AWD truck covered by InsideEVs had only a misaligned tonneau cover as a real issue, and its range estimate slipped from 318 to 309 miles, so a good one is out there.

## Cybertruck: common questions

### What is the best Cybertruck to buy?

The dual-motor All-Wheel Drive is the one to buy for most people. Consumer Reports says it handles all needs for most buyers. The Cyberbeast is 1.5 seconds quicker to 60 mph but has a shorter range.

### What goes wrong with the Cybertruck?

Trim that detaches, electrical faults and drivetrain failures on early trucks are the main reports. Recalls cover loose trim, the accelerator pedal cover, wiper motor controllers and the rearview camera delay. Some trucks had drive unit failures soon after delivery, and early owners reported air suspension errors.

### Is the Cybertruck reliable?

Not yet reliably so, going by early reports. NHTSA lists 11 recall campaigns on the 2024 model year, and InsideEVs says some trucks had early drive unit failures. A 50,000-mile AWD truck it covered had only a misaligned tonneau cover as a real issue.

### How much does it cost to run a Cybertruck?

Tires, insurance and repairs are the big costs. Squeezed says tires wear quickly and insurance is expensive. One high-mileage AWD truck used $2,819 of electricity at home over about 50,000 miles, or $7,688 on Superchargers.

### How much is a used Cybertruck?

Asking prices for the 194 cars we track for sale right now run from $58,999 to $145,189, with a median of $79,746. Model year, version, mileage and history move the price most; the prices by model year and fair values on this page show where a car should sit.

### Has the Cybertruck been recalled?

NHTSA lists 11 recall campaigns filed for the 2024 to 2027 model years as of Oct 31, 2026, the latest for wheels. Not every car was affected, so check the VIN of any car you're considering at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
