About LuxuryCarDealsLeaseBot

How Luxury Car Deals reads dealers' and lease brokers' lease specials, and how a site can opt out.

What it reads

LuxuryCarDealsLeaseBot is how Luxury Car Deals keeps its list of luxury car lease deals current. It reads the public lease specials pages on car dealers' and lease brokers' websites, the same pages any shopper can open, and copies the advertised offers and their fine print so shoppers can compare them in one place: luxury car lease deals.

Each offer we publish links back to the dealer or broker that advertises it for members, and every number comes from that seller's own page.

It identifies itself in every request with this user agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; LuxuryCarDealsLeaseBot/1.0; +https://www.luxurycardeals.com/lease-deals/about)

How it behaves

It reads robots.txt first and follows it, including Crawl-delay. It reads one page at a time from each site, at least a second and a half apart, and only a handful of pages per site: the home page, its menu's specials pages and their offers.

It visits each dealer about once a month, in the first days of the month when carmakers post new programs, and again the day after the dealer's offers end. It never signs in or fills in forms, and it doesn't read inventory, pricing tools or customer pages. On sites whose specials page loads its offers from the site's own offers feed, it asks that feed for them the same way the page does.

When a site turns it away (a 403 or 429 answer, or a bot check), it stops and leaves that site alone for three months. It does not disguise itself as a browser or work around blocks.

How to opt out

Add these two lines to your site's robots.txt and it will stop reading your site on its next visit:

Where it has got to

We read the lease specials on luxury car dealers' and lease brokers' own websites: 364 sites so far, of the thousands of franchised luxury and exotic car dealers and the hundreds of lease brokers on the carmakers' dealer lists and on open map data. For each one we find the page that lists its lease specials and confirm it: it has to show lease offers whose monthly payment and term are written on the page.

An AI model copies each offer into the same fields: payment, money due at signing, term, miles, MSRP and the numbers in its fine print. Our code then checks every number against the page, works out what the lease really costs a month, and leaves out offers whose numbers we can't find on the page or that don't add up.

So far it has read 364 sites and confirmed 44 lease pages.

Dealer locations

Dealer and lease broker locations come from the carmakers' own dealer locators, from the Overture Maps Foundation's places data (available under the Community Data License Agreement, Permissive 2.0: cdla.dev/permissive-2-0) and from OpenStreetMap (map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License: openstreetmap.org/copyright).
