Acura starts US sales of reproduction parts for the first-gen NSX
Used NSX listings sit in a cool market, with 52 cars for sale, a median asking price of $146,000 and nine rated great or good deals.
Owners of the original NSX can now buy reproduction parts in the US, American Honda announced on Nov. 2. The catalog runs past 3,000 items for 1991-2005 cars, and it is sold only through Acura dealers and the Honda DreamShop.
The program was unveiled for the US on March 10, with dealer ordering planned for summer. Autoweek reports that Honda Heritage Parts began in Japan in April. The NSX is the first US model, and parts for other Acura and Honda performance cars are under evaluation.
Two kinds of parts, five categories
Road & Track reports that the Genuine Honda Reproduction Parts are made with the original materials and methods. The Honda Compatible Parts are newly developed to replace items Honda no longer supplies.
Honda said the program covers powertrain, interior, exterior, electrical and chassis parts. Mamadou Diallo, an executive vice president at American Honda Motor Co., Inc., said Honda Heritage Parts was created "to help our customers enjoy their classic Acura and Honda performance models."
Prices and stock are still unknown
Acura has not given prices for individual parts, said which parts dealers hold, or named the next models. Before planning a repair, ask a dealer for the price and stock status of each part by part number.
The used NSX market is cool
In listings we tracked through Nov. 2, 52 Acura NSXs are for sale, with a median asking price of $146,000. The cheapest NSX asks $100,000, and model years run from 1991 to 2022. A typical NSX takes 75 days to leave the market, and nine of the 52 rate as great or good deals.
Two NSXs priced below fair value
A silver 2019 NSX SH-AWD Sport Hybrid with 6,127 miles in Farmingdale, New York, asks $146,075, about $11,000 under its fair value. It has been listed 116 days and was cut once, on Oct. 1.
A white 2017 NSX with 12,302 miles in Saugus, Massachusetts, asks $129,777, about $17,500 under fair value, and has been listed 11 days.
Since the Farmingdale car has sat 116 days even after that October cut, a buyer has reason to ask for a lower price still.
