Market report

Used BMW market runs warm for the M3 and cool for the X6 M

Of 1,873 BMWs for sale, 534 are rated great or good deals, with big discounts on older M3s and a 2025 M8 Competition.

2018 BMW M3 F80 Sedan

Used BMW prices are moving in opposite directions depending on the model. In listings we tracked through Oct. 1, asking prices for comparable M3s rose 1.6% between July and October, while the X6 M fell 3.2% over the same months.

The M3 market is warm and the X6 M market is cool, the two ends of a brand with 1,873 used cars for sale across five models and a median asking price of $64,400. The M3 accounts for 1,080 of those listings. The M5, M8 and i8 all rate as balanced.

The X6 M gives buyers the most room

The X6 M has the highest share of price cuts among the five models: 39% of the used X6 Ms for sale have been cut in the last 90 days.

Add a cool market temperature, a typical 51 days to leave the market and about three months of supply, and the X6 M reads as the one BMW where buyers have room to negotiate.

M3 sellers are holding firm

The M3 is the opposite. Only 23% of its listings have had a cut, the lowest share of the five, and a typical M3 leaves the market in 53 days, with 2.8 months of supply.

Prices run wide because the mix does. The base trim, 600 of the used M3s for sale, has a median asking price of $40,700, against $90,600 for the 288 Competition xDrives.

The other three models fall in between. Among used M8s for sale, a typical car leaves the market in 45 days, the quickest of the five, while the i8 is the slowest at 58. M5 asking prices held steady from July to October and are up 3.7% from October 2025. The M8 and i8 held steady between June and October.

The best deals are older M3s

The BMW deals list has 534 cars rated great or good, and the deepest discounts among the cars we picked are on older M3s.

Two 2018 M3 F80 sedans lead. A Champagne Quartz Metallic car with 17,155 miles in Kansas City, Kansas, asks $50,294, about $20,000 under its fair value, and it is the only one for sale in that color. A blue one with 30,720 miles in Orlando, Florida, asks $47,986, about $18,000 under fair value, after four cuts that took 21.5% off its first price. At 219 days listed, it is worth asking whether there is more room.

Older still, a blue 2004 M3 E46 coupe with 70,172 miles in Portland, Oregon, asks $25,890, about $13,500 under fair value, after two cuts. The E46 M3 coupe market is small, and at 135 days listed, a lower offer on this one is worth a try.

The one M8 in the group is a white 2025 Competition with 26,680 miles in Ewing, New Jersey. It asks $89,790, also about $13,500 under fair value, after one cut and 112 days listed.
