McLaren confirms the McL 820 supercar for 2027 with 820 PS
The US price is unknown, and used McLaren 720S listings ask a median of $245,000 while the 750S takes final orders.
McLaren has confirmed that its next series-production supercar will be called the McL 820 and arrive in 2027, CAR reports. The number is the car's output: 820 PS, or 809 hp.
Auto Express calls the McL 820 the effective replacement for the 750S, which it puts at 740bhp. McLaren hasn't said which model the car replaces, Autoblog notes, though the 750S is the likely candidate and is taking final orders. The 750S is scheduled to end production in 2027.
McLaren has not announced a US price
The McL prefix draws on McLaren's motorsport history and starts a naming convention that will cover both McLaren Automotive and McLaren Racing. McLaren says the approach is clearer and more consistent. The prefix was previewed on the McL 6GT, a limited-run car with a manual gearbox, shown at Monterey Car Week 2026.
The McL 820 name was first teased on a giant kiwi statue in London's Covent Garden, wrapped in camouflage with the new badge, Motor1 reports.
Carscoops and Auto Express report that McLaren is taking full in-house responsibility for designing and developing its own engines for the first time. It previously used Ricardo.
McLaren hasn't said what powers the McL 820 or how the engine is configured, and the US price isn't known. Exact on-sale and US delivery dates are also open, as is whether the car formally replaces the 750S. McLaren says it will release further details in 2027.
